One of the most common street foods in India, perhaps as popular as The Beatles, is Chole Bhature. A single bite and you won't be able to get enough of this filling dish. When hunger becomes intense, nothing satisfies your stomach better than a delicious and divine plate of Chole Bhature.

Chole is the Indian name for chickpeas. Mixed in a tasty sauce with the right spices, chickpeas take on a new identity. This steaming sauce is the true soulmate of our Bhature.

Although the history of food is always complex, quite a bit is known about Chole Bhature. Originating from the northern part of the Indian subcontinent, the first dishes date back to almost the 1940s. Over time, this dish has won the hearts of everyone in northern India. This makes us wonder more about its culinary history.

This dish, which is mainly eaten in Delhi and Punjab, is also famous in eastern Uttar Pradesh. With urbanization and migration, Chole Bhature has also made its way into southern India. People now across the country devour Chole Bhature, usually in the mornings as part of their nutritious breakfast.

An food experiment that turned out well; the person who invented Chole Bhature must have received a Nobel Prize if one existed for food. Loved by a population of over one billion people, this dish is now on menus everywhere.

Officially started in 2012, a Delhi resident decided to dedicate an entire day to Chole Bhature and its fans. The word spread through social media to bring together all C-Bats (Chole Bhature Lovers) on October 2nd each year to share their photos and recipes of Chole Bhature.

Out of curiosity, the day was chosen simply because it is a recognized national holiday as Gandhi Jayanti. This roughly translates to everyone being home with time to prepare and enjoy the dish peacefully.
